HIV/AIDS

Programme content:

  • Supervising 1,740 clients with medical and nutritional problems.
  • Supporting 280 schoolchildren (school costs and nutrition).
  • Training 220 HIV clients/former commercial sex workers, to enable them to secure additional income.
  • Working with the government to secure better care for the clients.

Target group: 2,340 people and 25 churches

Small-scale enterprise

Programme content:

Enabling people to strengthen their income position by means of savings and loan activities (through self-help groups)       and supervising  income-generating activities. 

  • Forming 96 new self-help groups with 1,440 (female) members.
  • Training 11 federations (covering SHGs).
  • Providing 1,100 micro-loans.
  • Providing logistical support to 110 small enterprises.
  • Helping 11 enterprises to develop into larger businesses.

Target group: 25,000 women in resettlement neighbourhoods (Delhi)

Education

Tear´s commitment in 2008: €95,210

Programme content:

  • Providing 1,050 children with primary/junior high school education.
  • Providing 425 children with informal education.
  • Providing 40 young people with computer education.
  • Enabling 160 adults to read and write.

Healthcare

Tear´s commitment in 2008: €198,905

Partners: Emmanuel Hospital Association and Asha

Programme content:

  • Providing prenatal care for 630 women.
  • Vaccinations and clinics for children under five years old.
  • Identifying and treating 2,600 TB patients.
  • Providing information about sexuality and reproduction to 300 adolescent girls.

Disaster risk reduction

Tear´s commitment in 2008: €252,000

Partners: EFICOR and Discipleship Centre

Programme content:

Establishment of the Disaster Risk Reduction programme in order to limit the consequences of possible new flooding incidents. This is a response to the flooding in September 2007.

Helping 45 villages save money for use in the event of an emergency.

Establishment of 36 income-generating self-help groups.

Involving 6,000 people in planting fruit trees.

Training 1,470 members of the Disaster Task Force.

Emergency relief

Tear´s commitment in 2008: €155,000

Partner: EFICOR

Programme content:

After flooding in Bihar, EFICOR organised two camps and one community kitchen. Approximately 2,500 people were fed in each of the two camps. In addition, EFICOR provided food (for at least four weeks) and non-food items for 15,000 families in two districts.
