HIV/AIDS

Programme content:
- HIV/AIDS education, voluntary counselling and testing (VCT), home-based care (HBC) and training.
- Equipping churches and communities to play a role in HIV programmes.
- Cooperation with various organisations in a self-organised learning programme for staff regarding innovative approaches within HIV programmes. Two external consultants have been involved. A network has been started by the various partners.

Education

Programme content:
Building a primary school in Debre Markos. A second instalment was paid for further construction of the school. As a result of escalating costs a third allocation was made in 2009 to finish off the school in time for the start of the school year.
Target group: 360 children, 90 of whom are from a poor background
Water

Programme content:
- Construction of wells, water supply systems and latrines.
- Training of water and sanitation committees.
- Training in the maintenance of water systems.
- Advice on health and hygiene, including use of a new methodology involving Community Health Clubs, for which a study tour to Uganda has been made.
Target group: 22,500 families (average family: six people)
Food security

- Improving food production by means of agricultural training and improved water management.
- Improving incomes by means of savings and loan groups.
- Literacy programmes.

Emergency relief

Programme content:
Food-for-work programme in Jeldu district, constructing roads and contour ridges. A special grant has been given to make the road construction more resistant to erosion.
Target group: 4,000 families (average family: six people)
RDA has received special reinforcement of its capacity through the secondment of a Dutch citizen with Ethiopian background, Amare Teklu. He moved to Addis Ababa with his wife and two children in July 2008 to work with MKC-RDA, supporting its operational capacity as an advisor. Funding for this secondment was received through the PSO Cross Over programme.
