Healthcare

Tear´s commitment in 2008: €156,740

Partners: PPSSP and CME

Programme content:

• Strengthening access to healthcare through organisational support to the partner, including construction of a new ward.
• Improving quality through support and training of staff.
• Children’s clubs in 100 schools, with lessons on preventative healthcare.
• Providing water and sanitation facilities for schools and communities.

Target group: 150,000 families in north-east Congo (average family: six people)

Education

Tear´s commitment in 2008: €30,000

Partner: ACOTBA-SUBO

Programme content:

• Supporting groups of people who receive local literacy lessons.
• Supporting several schools in setting up education in the local mother language.
• Training and support for the organisation’s board and management by means of a visit by an organisational expert and regular follow-up in order to set up a monthly planning and reporting system for the organisation's leadership team.

This programme was supported with funds carried over from previous years. The programme was evaluated both internally and by two external consultants, including one from PSO.

Target group: 57,902 participants in the literacy groups and children in the three lower grades of 95 primary schools, receiving education in their mother language

Emergency relief

Programme content:

• Distribution of non-food items and food for small children and pregnant or lactating women.
• Provision of temporary water and sanitation facilities for displaced people.
• Trauma counselling for victims of gender-based war violence.

Target group: 15,000 people
